Just saw this in an email from one of my professors who is an adviser for the Lesbian and Gay Vet Med Association at school. Target’s website says it will donate 100% of T-shirt sales from customers during the month of June to Family…
guys gay marriage was already illegal in north carolina, i don’t know why everyone is making a big deal that this amendment passed. if it didn’t, it literally wouldn’t have changed a thing…
but it does make a difference; the fact that it cements “marriage between one man and one woman” as the only legal recognition of a committed relationship, affecting:
so it is a big deal that the amendment passed, not just to lgbt north carolinians but to all of the people listed above. again, 60% of north carolinians who voted today, according to polls, weren’t exactly sure what the amendment was about exactly, and religious propaganda with flimsily-backed claims, disguised as solid political evidence, swayed a lot of people to vote for the amendment. it’s not just north carolinians that are uninformed.

i’d say “well at least i live in a county against the amendment” but the rest of this map makes me sick.

Marketing Campaign of the Day: As if it weren’t enough that North Carolina already doesn’t recognize same-sex unions, the state votes next Tuesday on a ballot measure that reads: “Constitutional amendment to provide that marriage between one man and one woman is the only domestic legal union that shall be valid or recognized by this State.”
This ad campaign, by Winston-Salem agency The Variable, plays on segregation-era discrimination to shock voters into voting down the offensive legislation, called Amendment 1: “On May 8th, make history. Don’t repeat it.”
Yes, please.

Yeah Winston-Salem!
Can’t begin to explain how upset Amendment 1 makes me. This campaign is clever.](http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m3avgrlhBi1qzpwi0o1_500.jpg)

Toy Chain Boycott of the Day: One Million Moms, the conservative group which previously targeted JCPenney for hiring Ellen as their new spokesperson and Clorox for its “sexual” Liquid-Plumr ad, has extended its not-quite-one-million talons in the direction of Toys R Us, calling for a boycott of the chain over its stocking of an Archie comic featuring the same-sex marriage of character Kevin Keller.
The American Family Association-affiliated organization published the following statement on their website:
Unfortunately, children are now being exposed to same-sex marriage in a toy store. This is the last place a parent would expect to be confronted with questions from their children on topics that are too complicated for them to understand. Issues of this nature are being introduced too early and too soon, which is becoming extremely common and unnecessary.
Archie Comics CEO John Goldwater quickly issued a retort, saying, in part:
As I’ve said before, Riverdale is a safe, welcoming place that does not judge anyone. It’s an idealized version of America that will hopefully become reality someday. We’re sorry the American Family Association/OneMillionMoms.com feels so negatively about our product, but they have every right to their opinion, just like we have the right to stand by ours. Kevin Keller will forever be a part of Riverdale, and he will live a happy, long life free of prejudice, hate and narrow-minded people.
Toys R Us has yet to comment.

This pisses me off because why should parents be mad that their children are being exposed to something that they won’t let their biased ways and ignorance take two minutes to explain to them.
they can’t understand it? only because you don’t let them understand it.
but they understand perfectly that all the pretty princes and all the pretty princesses get married to the opposite sex and that ken is supposed to marry barbie and you let these little kids play house with babies and all this
but they can’t understand that sometimes boys fall in love with boys or girls with girls?
that’s no one’s fault but your own. stop placing the blame on society. you’re just a complete asshole. explain that to your children.](http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m068tkaEt01qzpwi0o1_500.jpg)

Bullying and suicides of gay and lesbian teenagers are in the headlines, the military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy has been repealed, and the debate over same-sex marriage continues to divide the country. Against this backdrop, many L.G.B.T. youth wonder how accepting society will be.

An article in the March issue of Seventeen, featuring Rebecca and Haileigh from San Diego, CA, the first lesbian couple to be named Homecoming King and Queen.
I actually started crying while reading this.
;__;
seventeen has had steady, vocal coverage of lgbt stories and general support of the lgbt community for a while now and it always makes me so, so happy. i love getting this magazine in the mail.
